Document whether the product returns zero, null, unavailable, or another display state. Do not replace undefined ratios with zero in downstream dashboards without a business decision.

Choose the unit.

GA4 requires a unit of measurement.[1] A ratio can be displayed as a decimal or percentage depending on formula and unit.

Known-value test:

25 leads / 100 sessions = 0.25 = 25%

Avoid multiplying by 100 in the formula and also selecting a percentage unit if that double-scales the display.

Treat the API name as schema.

Google lets an administrator choose the API name during creation, but it cannot be changed afterward under current documentation.[1]

Avoid names like test_metric_2_final. Display names can change. API identifiers should not.

Respect product limits.
